Sometimes the best music to hear is by the unknown artists. Some great places to find these artists are small cafes and clubs, Borders, an Myspace. Now I’m not a huge fan of myspace but I will say that i have discovered some great artists on there. My current personal fave is David Thompson. He’s got a great sound that is reminiscent of the Red Hot Chili Peppers and of Queens of the Stone Age. He currently does not have an album out but you can preview tracks off of his upcoming album on his myspace, myspace.com/davidsmusicnstuff. Another artist I have become a fan of is Sean Fitzpatrick. He’s been playing for years and just released his 7th album Force this past February. A track to check out is Drowning or Fuel for my Liar. Both are excellent and when you discover that Sean is a one man band doing the guitar, bass, drums, and pretty much anything you can think of, you find his music even better. His myspace is myspace.com/seansnoiseNow if you like funk a great band to check out on myspace is Groove Ethics. They’re fun and put on a great live show. Check them out at myspace.com/groovethics. Now I did a review of a Battle of the Bands a while back and all of the headliners were discovered through myspace. Myspace is a great place to find new music, and hopefully I will have some interviews with these artists in the near future.

Untouched by The Veronicas

Untouched by the Australian Dance punk, Electropop band The Veronicas is an excellent song I recently got into. The Veronicas are made up of identicle twin sisters Jessica Louise Origliasso and Lisa Marie Origliasso. They were created back in 2005 adn are still an active group with just relasing their second album Hook Me Up back in November. Untouched starts off with some classical orchestral intrsuments that leads into a very catchy synth beat which eventually has an even catchier guitar and keyboard melody added. This song is very electropop, but don’t let me saying that scare you away. I usually listen to hard rock adn genres like that, but I love this song. The song was released to Australian radio on November 21, 2007 and became the most added song to radio for that week. The song debuted on the Australian ARIA Singles Chart at number four on December 17, 2007. The song debuted at number sixteen on the U.S. Billboard Bubbling Under Hot 100 Singles on July 5, 2008. This is an awesome song that you should check out http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4NLs3odG2Kc

Long time no blog! I am really truly very sorry! But I’m getting right back into the swing of things with a fashion tip of the day : )

Tip of the Day: Summer is hot, keep your hair cool!

Healthy hair seems to be a rarity in the summer. With damage from heat, sun, pool water, and other hair killers, it’s amazing everyone is not bald by the end of august! Dry scalp, fried strands and split ends are rampant but there are ways of beating the heat and keeping your hair luscious.

Top tips to Keep Your Hair Happy:

1. Skip the blow-dryer/flat iron/curlers, your hair gets enough stress from the summer sun and heat, give it a break and let your hair air dry and fall naturally.

2. Use swim shampoo, its specially formulated to help get rid of chlorine buildup and keep your hair green-free (My favorite is the L’Oreal Kids Swim Shampoo in the orange scent, mmm!).

3. Treat hair to a deep conditioner once a week to keep weak brittle strands at bay.

4. Get your hair trimmed every 4 to 6 weeks to keep split ends away, they frequent your hair when its dry so you cannot afford to miss a trim!

5. Use color care shampoo for dyed hair, its especially important if you are out in the sun or pool a lot, where your hair will change shades faster than you get burnt! Keep your original color bright with John Frieda’s color care shampoos and conditioners.

6. Give your tresses a break from the sun by slipping them under a hat a few days a week, your hair will stay softer and shinier!

7. Before you go swimming get your hair wet in the shower, wet hair won’t soak up as much of the pool water, keeping your hair chemical free!

8. If your hair gets especially tangled, use a leave-in conditioner on your strands before and after splashing in the water.

9. Let hair naturally lighten, don’t try to use spray in lightener that can potentially fry your locks!

10. Keep hair in fun french braids to avoid tangles and breakage (and its a super cute look for summer!).

These tips should help you keep your hair looking and feeling it’s best this summer. Enjoy the beach, pool and outdoors but don’t forget to take care of your hair!

An excellent song by the 80’s new wave rock group INXS, it is one of my favorite songs by them. The song starts off with a catchy drum rhythm and leads into the lyrics by adding each instrument one at a time. Michael Hutchence’s voice is simply amazing, singing whisper like in this particular song; he was an amazing singer/songwriter who tragically died by hanging himself although it is thought it is thought to have been caused by an autoerotic asphyxiation. The lyrics are insightful and wonderfully written by Michael Hutchence and Andrew Farriss. The video is quite nice too, http://youtube.com/watch?v=luobOzreRq4 although Guitarist and saxophone player Kirk Pengilly stated in an interview that he did not like the music video for “Devil Inside,” because he thought that it was “too American.” Random fact: This song was used in the movie rockstar. Enjoy this song and I’m sure you will see me write more on INXS.

So on my recent exploits to Kohl’s, I’ve noticed quite a disturbing trend in their latest posters for the moderately priced summer attire. As I was leafing through the massive racks of printed and/or novelty tee’s, I looked up to see a rather angsty-looking teen with some sort of gay-emo-fohawk-weirdo peakcokshit hair-do holding a Fender Telecaster. So I looked at this in horror for about fourteen second s before realizing that every poster of every teen had some sort of either bass, guitar, or drum set featured almost above the clothing these statuesque teens were wearing. Immediately began to feel angry and wanting to break some type of shit that was close and easily destroyed, but I calmed down, and analyzed the situation instead. WHY were these kids holding these things in the first place? So, I began to run through some options.
1): Perhaps fender and Kohl’s was getting paid big bucks be fender to feature their instruments in their adds as a quite direct way to display their instruments to young teens.
2): Perhaps there was a new Kohl’s brand line of clothing based around music and stuff; perhaps new band and/or guitar company oriented tee’s (which I thought was the case) .

Turns out both were horribly wrong.

So I stroll over to the girls clothes and- OMFGWTFBBQ0×0x0×0x0r~ss!! The girls are all holding the too!!! Wait a minute…..This girl is wearing a sort of dressy top, and a knee length, very classy floral patterned skirt….SO WHY THE HELL IS SHE HOLDING A GIBSON FLYING V!!!!!!! And why are these other girls (also dressed in nice clothes(did I forget to to mention these posters are located in the girl’s dress clothes section?)) holding guitar’s too???? The brand names on the headstocks were even photoshopped out… So why the instruments at all? even thought they did have some new band tee’s in stock, the reason for the new guitar posters were clear: owning a guitar makes you cool. If you have a guitar, that must mean you’re in a band, and that also makes you cool, and a rockstar!!! Who wouldn’t want to be a rockstar!!! I know I would.

With items on the market now, like Guitar Hero, Rock Band, and things of that nature, being a rockstar has been closer than ever. After playing these games, Kids go to guitar center and pick up $90 dollar guitars, which the begin to learn “E’ and “Am” chords on, instantly making them guitarists, and the ability to say to people, “yeah, I pretty much play guitar. not gonna lie.”
Unfortunately for people who actually play guitar, guitar center is now full of those kids trying out their brand new E chords and clogging up the place with polluted sounds. Here’s a little tid bit. Look at the number of guitars sold under $100. http://www.musictrades.com/census.htmlNow, anyone who says they “play guitar” is probably lying, but what about those who know what they’re doing? Oh well for them I suppose. If you wanna be cool, buy a squire and learn three chords. everyone is doing it.

*This was written by my friend (obviously a guitarist)

This song is just one of the many memory songs of being young. Here’s to the Night is the end of the 90’s alternative rock sound. It hit #30 on billboard charts while other hits off of Eve 6’s album Horrorscope reached as high as #3. Here’s to the Night is a good song to remeber your years with your friends, especially because graduation is coming up soon. As much as this can be considered a love song I personally think it can be used to think of your friendships you had. It’s a great song and enjoy http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=m_wHlg_AL0c&feature=related

Tip of the Day: Tanning tips (fake tanning, that is)

Sunless tanning has become more popular as new formulas are looking less orange, more natural, and perfectly bronzed. But a great fake tan can be spotted a mile away with several tell-tale signs: orange palms, dark knees and ankles, white wrists, streaky or blotchy skin color, and obvious tan lines. I have the solution to each problem listed below. For the experienced and the novice tanners, these are valuable tips no matter how little or often you (fake) tan.

Problem - How to fix it

1. Orange palms- wear latex gloves when your rub the lotion on (then have a friend go back and rub in some lotion on the top of your hands), or use a misting tanner (from a spray bottle), or apply a thick coat of hand or body lotion to your palms to block out the tanning lotion.

2. Dark knees and feet- exfoliate with a scrubby, bubbly soap, and warm water then apply a layer of body lotion to those areas (to moisturize and help them to avoid sucking up all of the tanning lotion), and/or start applying your lotion to the middle of your thighs and work down (not up, like the bottle always says) and skip over your knees and feet and apply the lotion when there is hardly any left on your hands, and/or apply the lotion to your knees when they are not bent (too much lotion might get in there, if they are bent).

3. White wrists- (caused by washing your hands after applying the lotion, and then washing it off your wrists) try wearing gloves when you apply lotion then have someone get the tops of your hands so you do not have to worry about washing them or use a spray tanner.

4. Streaky/blotchy skin- exfoliate your skin thoroughly and apply lotion to skin before using self-tanner, then rub tanner in until it is mostly dry (try not to focus all of your attention on one area, the rest might dry on its own), if your “tan” has dried try using lemons/lemon juice on the darker streaks of skin because the acid will lift the color.

5. Obvious tan lines- (from where you did not apply the tanner) use bronzer to temporarily cover it up, or use a small bit of tanner on the light areas of your skin and blend it into the darker areas.

Other problems:

-Orange fingers, toes, nails, etc: Use a thick, thick layer of body lotion to cover the skin well (you don’t even need to rub it in on your nails)

-Too dark, too fast: if you just applied the tanner, hop in the shower and wash it off. if it has been a while, exfoliate your skin thoroughly in the shower several times to remove the upper layers of skin (the ones with most of the color on them).

-Everybody knows it is fake: Just admit it, because you can tell everyone that you don’t feel like getting skin cancer over something silly like a tan.

These tips should help you to have the best, most natural looking, bronzed skin. So go bare some skin with your newly sunless tanned body!

(Sorry for the delay of blogging) Overalls (and short-alls and skirt-alls) are the cutest comeback fashion of this year. Who does not remember wearing overalls as a little kid, and loving every minute of it? Well bring that childlike joy back into your life, because overalls are back!

The great thing about the overalls of today (in comparison of the ones from the 90’s) is that they are better fitted and more stylish. Instead of baggy pipe-leg overalls, there are fitted stretch denim overalls that flatter the figure. And there are way more cute varieties. From cute skirt-alls (overalls with a skirt for a bottom) to fun short-alls, these style have improved in design and are a great spring/summer fashion.

Overalls are really comfortable and wearable (no one can argue that thisstyle is uncomfortable!). Try a fun skirt all with cute leggings and peep-toe flats for a fun springy look. Or try denim short-alls with Ked’s and a preppy striped tee for a fun nautical beachy look. Another great thing about skirt-alls is that they highlight your legs very well and look adorable with flats or sneakers.

Have fun reliving your childhood days in overalls!

Ahoy, there! Today’s tip is about the newly popularize nautical look for spring. Nautical looks are typically associated with the colors navy, red, and white (not Americana, just nautical). In addition, anchors, nautical stars, and ship steering wheels are also cute memorabilia from this style. A great way to get the nautical look without going overboard is with hints of it.

Red, navy, and white are great bold colors that can flatter any skin tone and hair color. If you have great tan skin and medium or dark hair, focus on white with accents of red or blue. If you are fair all around, try navy blue to make your skin pop, without washing you out. If you have medium or golden skin with any color hair, play up the red. If you wear evenly balanced amounts of red, navy, and white, you will look like a walking American flag, and the other colors that don’t flatter you can make you look sallow. Stick to your best color and simply accent it with others, for a great nautical balance.

Try a cute pair of anchor shaped earrings or a navy blue and white summer dress. If you go overboard (no pun intended) with the anchor print, you will looks like you came from a pirate or sailor convention. A great place to find cute nautical looks is Charlotte Russe. With everything from jewelry to purses to dresses, you will be ready to set sail with a fun new look.
